That’s what Amazon.com has THE BOOK OF GODDESSES listed under — it now costs $4.99 instead of $22.50. This appears to be a mistake, since it was originally $4.99 off, not $4.99. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t take advantage of it.

goddess painting of the day: Persephone with pomegranates

The end of the year now feels officially before me: As of this morning, I’ve finished all of my work deadlines for 2006. Ta da! All that is left on my “to do” list for this year are “real life” stuff: wrapping presents, household matters and enjoying the holidays with my family and friends. Not that my work isn’t part of real life, but you know what I mean.
What you see here is the painting that I finished this morning, for a book about the healing benefits of pomegranates. Though I didn’t intend it to be so, it does look vaguely holidayish to me - maybe it’s the red fruit against the green of the leaves, the gold background, the angelic quality to Persephone with her flowing hair.
For this reason, it seems like an appropriate image to leave you with, as the old year winds down and the new one begins. For the next week and a half, I’ll be mainly out of the studio. Publishing shuts down for the week between Christmas and New Year’s, so I may as well take advantage of this enforced down time. I’ll try not to think about future art projects, though of course, I will — it’s hard for me to turn off new ideas when it comes to making books or websites. Instead of working, I plan to see the Joseph Cornell exhibition in DC as well as some exhibitions here in NYC — all the things I never have time to do when I’m on deadline. Looking at art always helps me to refill the well so I can work with renewed inspiration.
This painting of Persephone with pomegranates — my last painting in 2006 — was painted in oils over watercolor and gouache. It measures 8.5 x 13″, and is on Arches paper. If you’re interested, you can request a giclée print of it. Visit my online gallery at www.kriswaldherr.com to learn more.
And I’ll see you all in 2007!

goddess painting of the day: Psyche

I’ve long been enthralled with the story of Cupid and Psyche. Over the years, it’s inspired numerous works of art and words from me. Here is one I’ve painted of Psyche, which was created for The Lover’s Path Tarot. She was painted in oil washes over watercolor, gouache and inkjet on Arches paper.
Psyche, the beloved of Cupid, is presented here as the graceful Princess of Arrows. Before she could be reunited with Cupid, Psyche needed to gain wisdom, represented by the tasks set to her by Venus. Butterflies flutter about the Psyche in this painting, symbolizing the transformation the she yearns to achieve.
