Though these days, few female rulers are beheaded, die in childbirth, or forced into political marriages as they once were, the cautionary example of the Doomed Queen still thrives. The 2008 election have made it clear that things haven’t changed much for women in power, despite Hillary Clinton’s “18 million cracks in the glass ceiling” — or the nomination of Sarah Palin, an Alaskan beauty queen, as the Republicans’ first female vice president.
