file this under “small world”

Holly over at Wonders and Marvels just announced the winner of her DOOMED QUEENS giveaway. Wonder of wonders: It’s a woman whom my husband and daughter met at a party two weeks ago, Joanna Ebenstein. Joanna runs the Morbid Anatomy project over at Proteus Gowanus, an art gallery cooperative based in Brooklyn—not far from my little studio-gallery.

You might be wondering what the provocatively-titled Morbid Anatomy is. Well, it’s very cool! Morbid Anatomy* is a project begun in 2007 to survey the interstices of art and medicine, death and culture. The Morbid Anatomy Library houses the ever-growing collection of books, catalogs, photographs, articles, ephemera and artifacts as source material for the ongoing Morbid Anatomy endeavor. And now DOOMED QUEENS will join them.

I’m bemused by how small the world is.

* Warning for the squeamish: The Morbid Anatomy archives contain intense anatomical imagery.

I went over to the Proteus Gowanus website and checked out the information on Morbid Anatomy. Boy, you certainly have fascinating art galleries in New York! Too bad it’s so far away from Colorado…

Hey there! Small world, indeed! Now you’ll have to come pay your book a visit in its new home! Come by anytime! Just email me first. : )
