The Art of the App
My latest Goddess Tarot app blog tour post is up! It’s all about creating art for an iPhone app:
Unless you’re versed in the programming languages C+ and Cocoa, creating an iPhone app is a mysterious process. Unlike websites, there are no Dreamweaver-like editors out there to construct your app with a click and drag of the mouse. That written, the popularity of the App Store has led to ample resources for those determined to code-or-bust — there’s even an iPhone Application Development for Dummies book available.
But what about creating art for an app?

Deck-a-palooza! and more
First things first: The next stop on The Goddess Tarot app tour has gone live over at Lunaea Weatherstone’s blogue, At Brigid’s Forge. I’ve known Lunaea through various goddess-y endeavors for some years now. We’ve worked together on several Amber Lotus calenders; she’s featured my work on her sumptuous artisan rosaries. So it’s especially a pleasure to be her guest on her inspiring, beautiful blogue.
(You might be wondering why “blogue” instead of the standardly spelled “blog”. Lunaea explains, “It’s just an old-fashioned touch that harkens back to less-hurried (and harried) times. . . . When you visit my blogue, I invite you to take a nice deep breath, absorb things a little at a time, wander in a serendipitous fashion, and generally remember that even in the ultra-speedy world of the Internet, you control the pace of your life.” Lovely, wonderful advice.)
On this stop, Lunaea interviews me about using a tarot app for readings and much more. I hope you’ll take a moment to visit.
In other news, I’m pleased to formally announce that U.S. Games Systems will be publishing four new card decks by me. U.S Games is also the publisher of The Goddess Tarot and The Lover’s Path Tarot.

Two of these new projects are related to Doomed Queens — Doomed Queens playing cards and Ask the Queens advice cards — which will be most likely published in early 2010. The other two are The Sacred World Oracle and a deck which will tie into my new book underway. (Still too early to reveal the details about this, though I’ve posted hints on this blog. One thing I can safely admit is that it’s also royally-themed, like Doomed Queens.)
After so many years in publishing, I don’t count a deal as done until everyone’s John Hancock is on the page. But this week, I signed the contracts for all four decks. Now I’m awaiting countersignature and my copies in the mail and all that.
I look forward to sharing more about these new projects as they develop!

What they don’t tell you about creating a tarot deck
I’m back from the West Coast — and have been greeted by a “to do” list that feels longer than my vacation. (Isn’t that always the way?) Nonetheless, The Goddess Tarot app blog tour continues anon.
Today, I have a guest post over at The Tarot Dame which is all about tarot deck creation. Oh, and there’s a giveaway too. I hope you’ll take a moment to check it out.
Once I have a chance to catch up (and catch my breath), there will be some new posts coming here. Really. This summer has been a particularly travel-intense one. I’m still waiting for my spirit to catch up with my body, if you know what I mean.

Only Tarot podcast
The next stop on the Goddess Tarot app blog tour is now live! Check out a podcast with me here at Only Tarot. During this 20 minute interview we talk about everything from my first tarot deck to creating art; from the artists I admire to food porn.
(Yes, food porn! That’s what I call books and movies that glorify food-as-art. One recent example: Julie and Julia. Or the memoirs of Ruth Reichl.)
Only Tarot is hosted by Lucy D. I love that she describes her site as describes as “no magic, no mumbo jumbo -– just the tarot”. Simple and to the point.
I hope you’ll stop by and listen.

As I wrote yesterday, I’m traveling with my family on the west coast right now. Nonetheless, I’m virtually visiting Arwen Lynch’s tarot blog today, as the first stop on The Goddess Tarot app blog tour. I’ve written a post about tarot in the digital age — I hope you’ll stop by to comment! On top of that, we’ll be offering a giveaway.
(It’s just all giveaways all the time these days!)
