As featured in the Village Voice. (Sorry, we won’t be serving vodka….)

Tonight’s the night for Tarot-A-Palooza, our big Halloween tarot marathon at the gallery! It starts at 6 pm and runs until 11 pm. I’m pleased to report that we got a nice write up in the Village Voice, New York City’s most important weekly paper:

FEELING LUCKY?
Give me a quarter . . . I’ll tell you your fortune

BY ARACELI CRUZ

There’s a quaint studio/gallery residing among the Victorian homes near Brooklyn College that has become a sanctuary of sorts. On a typical day, this is where author and illustrator Kris Waldherr displays her work, conducts workshops, and sells books. However, once a month, visitors flock here to get psychic readings—and tonight, on the eve of Halloween, Waldherr is staying open later than usual for Tarot-a-Palooza. Having transformed her gallery into a mystical haven, she has invited tarot card readers for a night of fortune-telling fun. Food and refreshments will be served, and, as Waldherr tells us, she might have to open a bottle or two of vodka to really make a night of it.”

I’m a bit puzzled by the vodka reference. But we will have wine and cheese and fruit. And besides getting your cards read, you can also view our new fairy tale exhibition. :)

The readers for tonight’s tarot marathon will be me, urban shaman Mama Donna Henes, Diane Saarinen, and Rene Collins. We’’ll be offering readings at a variety of prices on any of your questions. Free admission and refreshments. Costumes optional. Spooky decor and door prizes.

This event takes place at:
Kris Waldherr Art and Words
1501 Newkirk Avenue (entrance on Marlborough, across from Rite Aid)
Brooklyn, 11226

And happy Halloween!

On a related note as to events and such, I’ll be having an open studio here on November 7 and 8th, from 11 am to 4 pm. It’s all part of my neighborhood’s annual Flatbush Artists Studio Tour, which features the work of twenty-two talented artists:

Set in Victorian Flatbush, a center for Brooklyn’s most stunning houses and gardens, you’re invited:

  • To walk our leafy streets
  • To tour artists’ studios
  • To discover their artwork: painting, sculpture, mixed media, and much more.

Admission is free. Preview the other participating artists’ work here. Can’t make it? Join us at the opening reception on November 5, 7-10 PM at the Newkirk Medical Center, located at 1414 Newkirk Avenue (around the corner from the gallery).
